Ecosystem Restoration

                         Ecosystem Restoration

”The land is in a constant state of birth

giving life to all who live our carelessness and fears

have taken a toll over the years”

Introduction:- Today, the earth's ecosystem has completely gone away. The statistic shows that 45 percent of the World's Wildlife and 12% of plant species have decreased. This figure shows that the number of trees, tigers, lions, deer, and other wonderful wildlife among us is continuously decreasing or is on the verge of extinction. Due to this, the balance of nature has deteriorated. Therefore, in order to maintain the balance of life on earth, it is very important to preserve the animals, trees, and plants for this the United Nation General Assembly declared 2021 to 30 as the “United Nation decade on Ecosystem Restoration”.

Ecosystem Restoration:- Humans have always had a negative impact on the environment. Our dependency on the environment has caused us to exploit it as a natural resource. Ecosystem restoration means assisting in the recovery of the ecosystem that has been degraded or destroyed, as well as conserving the ecosystem that is still intact. Healthier ecosystems with richer biodiversity, yield greater benefits such as more fertile soil, bigger population of rare and threatened species, and increase the availability of environmental goods and services, as well as contribute to the improvement of humans.

Ecosystem restoration could also remove 13 to 26 Giga tons of greenhouse gases from the atmosphere.

Restoration can happen in many ways for example through actively planting or by removing pressure so that nature can recover on its own. It is not always possible to return an ecosystem to its original state. All kinds of ecosystems can be restored including forests, farmland, cities, wetland, and oceans. Restoration initiatives can be launched by about anyone from government and development agencies to businesses, communities, and individuals.

Restoring ecosystem large and small protects and improves the lively hood of people who depend on them. It also helps to regulate disease and reduce the risk of natural disease.

On 1st March 2019, “The United Nation General Assembly” declared 2021 to 30 as the UN decade on ecosystem restoration. This call to action has the purpose of recognizing the need to massively accelerate the global restoration of degraded ecosystems, to fight the climate heating crisis, and enhence food security, provide clean water and protect biodiversity on the earth.

Projects involved in Ecosystem Restoration:- Following projects were involved in ecosystem restoration.

1.    1. Soil erosion control.

2. 2. Removal of non-native species and weeds.

3.3. The reintroduction of native species.

4.  4. Reforestation.

5. 5. Day-lighting streams.

6.  6. Re-vegetation of Disturbed Areas.

7.  7. Habitat and range improvement for target species.

The motive of Ecosystem Re-storation:- CXreating a world for a decade where the relationship between humans and nature is restored for the health and well-being of all beings on earth, both in the present and future. The aim is to increase the area of a healthy ecosystem and reduce environ-mental degradation.

Enhancing Global, Regional, national, and local commitments to help prevent, halt, and reserve ecosystem degradation.

Develop and apply an understanding of ecosystem restoration to the education system and decision-making across all public and private sectors.

Benefits of Ecosystem Restoration:-

1. Native plants species have a hard time over centuries to accumulate to a region, whereas non-native species have not.

2.  Preservation of the original habitat and species.

3. Beneficial of wildlife, retention of naturally occurring food sources.

4. Help mitigated climate change and threatened or endangered species.

Conclusion:-  There is a need of agricultural land and infrastructure on land that was once a forest. Restoration of ecosystems, such as societies need to adapt to the changing climate with such understanding and contribution there will be no harm to any animal, plant, or human life, by doing this our earth will always be safe for all.
